Hi, I’m Sarah Banks, writer, journalist and photographer - and author of Wild Guide North East England.

I live in rural North Yorkshire with my husband and three sons. I am passionate about spending time outdoors hiking, wild swimming and photographing nature. I delight in discovering new places and sharing them with others so they can enjoy them too.

My book, Wild Guide North East England, is a best-selling guidebook, part of the award-winning wild guide series of books from Wild Things Publishing.

Throughout a varied career, I have worked as a journalist on newspapers, magazines and websites across the UK, taught English in Paris, and toured abroad as wardrobe mistress with the Royal Shakespeare Company as well as gaining a masters degree in Literature.

My current focus is writing and photographing wild places and I am currently researching a book of wild swimming walks.

My writing and photography has featured in The Guardian, Mail Online, BBC online, The Yorkshire Post, Yorkshire Life, Yorkshire Living, Living North, Britain magazine…

Commissions

I am interested in writing and photography commissions with a particular focus on travel, culture, literature, nature and the outdoors. In addition, I am an experienced book and festival event host and have given talks and presentations to various organisations and charities on exploring Yorkshire and the North East.

“If you need a great photographer to help document your work, then Sarah is your person. She has a great documentary eye for showing your studio or workplace.”
