January Inspiration
January’s Wolf Moon, the first full moon of 2026
Things that have caught my eye this month…
Curl up on the sofa and drift off into a world of sea lore, song and wild swims in Mermaid Tales: Isle of Skye. I loved the dreamy mermaid swimming scenes in this film about Scottish musician and wild swimmer Kate Macleod, sheathed in a mono fin, as she swims around the Isle of Skye’s spectacular coastline.
This year I am keen to try more city swimming after plunging in Oslo’s Oslofjord last summer. I was given a fab little book called Swim London for Christmas and can’t wait to try out some of the city swims on my next visit to the capital.
This month’s Wolf Moon (first full moon of the year) was a stunner. If you fancy a moonlit swim, The Outdoor Swimming Society have helpfully listed all the full moon dates for 2026.
If you are looking for a good read to get you through the winter evenings, I can highly recommend There are Rivers in the Sky by Elif Shafak. I adored this book which weaves together three stories by way of a single rain drop.
I am gearing up for some trips up north in spring and summer. So if you are based in the North East and fancy joining me on some test swim walks for my new book of wild swimming walks in Northumberland and North Pennines, do join my Facebook Group, Wild Swimming Walks Northumberland and North Pennines.
