Horseshoe Lake, Pool Bridge

Things that have caught my eye this month…

Following on from my musings on winter saunas, I enjoyed this BBC article by Laura Hall on Viking Wellness

I thought I would share this lovely poetry blog, written by Fiona who I met last year at a book shop event and who has joined me on a couple of wild swims since.

I enjoyed an open water swimming session at Allerthorpe Lakeland Park last month. Check out their website for session times. The lake has a sandy bottom and is not very deep so warms up quite quickly. There is an onsite cafe too.

I don’t tend to swim in Horseshoe Lake at Pool Bridge Farm but the addition of a new changing area has created a lovely, secluded spot. Thanks Mandy at PB for the recommendation!

Whilst plotting swim walking routes in the North Pennines I stayed at the state-of-the-art The Sill Youth Hostel. If a hike along Hadrian’s Wall is on your wish list, I can highly recommend the hostel as a base.

I had a relaxing beach sauna with Whitby Wellbeingat Cayton Bay. The sauna is currently there every second Sunday of the month.

If you fancy joining me on some test swim walks for my new book of wild swimming walks in Northumberland and North Pennines this summer, do join my Facebook Group, Wild Swimming Walks - Yorkshire, Northumberland and North Pennines
